The process of lipstick application is a lot more complex than one may think. It's not a simple matter of buying the lipstick in the desired color and smearing it on the lips. There's actually a science behind proper applications. Following the instructions within this blog will guarantee the best results.

Lipstick Application

Purchasing a lipstick is the first thing that needs to be done. The best kind comes with Vitamin E, collagen, sunscreen, and amino acids. These ingredients will moisturize the lips, keep them healthy, and protect them from the sun. Deciding on the appropriate color is the next step. Are you trying to make a bold statement or pick something that with go with the rest of your cosmetics? Whichever you choose, make sure the lipstick has the aforementioned ingredients for healthy lips! And don't forget to pick up a lip brush because it will give you more control over the application process.

Also, be sure to get a lip liner pencil. The lip liner should be one shade darker than the desired lipstick color. However, if you want to make a statement, go out on a limb and use two different colors. I will say that no matter what type of statement you want to make, you should probably have a good knowledge of how colors look together or the only statement you'll be making is "I don't know what looks good together!" You might also convey an "I don't give a crap!" attitude. If that were the case, you probably wouldn't bother putting lipstick on in the first place.

Now, once you've accumulated the desired lipstick and liner and chosen whether to make a bold statement or take the more subtle route, you're ready to begin the application processes. Unless, of course, you haven't applied the rest of your make up already. If you haven't done that yet, go ahead and do that now.

With the rest of your make up good to go, you may now move onto applying the lipstick. But first, be sure to remove any loose, dead skin from the lips to prevent a cracked and uneven final appearance. A tiny bit of lip balm or petroleum jelly can be applied to the lips to increase moisture.

Lipstick Application

Once your lips are even and smooth, open them slightly, making sure your facial muscles are relaxed. Outline your lips with the liner pencil. It is a good idea to warm up the pencil slightly by holding it in the palm of your hand before trying to use it. Then, use the lip brush to apply the lipstick, working your way from the corners of each lip to the middle.

Lipstick Application

Think you're done yet? Not so fast! The next thing to do is blot the lips with a piece of bathroom tissue. This will remove an excess color and ensure that the lipstick looks even. Be careful! You don't want to press too hard. That will remove too much color or create nasty smudges. Once the lipstick looks evenly applied, put face powder over the lips and add another coat of lipstick. That's it! Finished.

Lipstick Application

If this sounds too difficult for you, or you are pressed for time, you can buy sheer colors that can be applied straight from the lipstick bullet. You will not need liner or all the time involved. Unfortunately, this limits your color choices. No thick purples, bold blues, stark blacks, or neon colors! Regardless of what you do, though, be sure to bring all the necessary tools to reapply during your outing.
